TEAM  ITU-ASVTECH: Modular Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) Development at Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty

 

The Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) development studies at ITUMF, started in 2013, with the estblishment of ITU Design Project Team by Dr. Ismail Cicek.

Dr. Cicek had previous experience in development of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and systems (UAS) and he initiated Team ASVTECH to continue his studies in unmanned systems.

Dr. Ismail Cicek is currently at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Maritime Faculty, working as Assistant Professor.  In 2016, the TEAM ASVTECH was awarded a second place in a national design competition . BS, MS and Ph.D. students are contiously working as a team at ITU-ASVTECH.

 

In this video, remote control capability was demonstrated. Autonomous capability, using the same boat, is under development and testing.

 

Our next study is the development of a bigger size boat, shown in Figure, with more autonomous navigation capabilitiy. In this, autonomous capabilities will be tested with GPS, Optic/IR Camera and a RADAR integration.
